Tony has been involved in the practical application of rock mechanics for over 30 years, initially in deep-level hard rock gold mines, and subsequently on operations and projects at all depths and in many mining types.
Areas of specific expertise includes design of mining layouts, rockbursting and seismicity, stope layout and support systems, tunnel and shaft support systems (bolting, shotcreting, etc.).
He is, or has been, the legally appointed rock engineer on several operations including chromitite open pits, nickel open pits and underground, and underground diamond fissure mines. He has provided the rock engineering component in feasibility studies for new mines in coal, copper, diamonds, platinum and chromitite, both open pits and underground.
